I am in San Diego, several days before the Con of all Cons starts to get a little relaxing in before there will be no more relaxing for several days. It is so weird to see the convention center and the Gaslamp District empty; I'm accustomed to seeing it teeming with costumed humanity. Here's a peek at my adventures thus far:
Welcome to the Historic Heart of San Diego, the Gaslamp District! This is where the majority of the off-site events take place during the Con. There's a ton of great restaurants and shops to check out here.
So this is what the convention center looks like with no people! Super weird.
Where is everyone? I should probably get in line for Hall H right now, maybe I'll actually have a shot at getting in.
Look, I found Terminus! And it's at a Hilton, how convenient. I believe there's a BBQ taking place there that you can go to if you tweet a selfie of yourself in front it, and then be one of the first 200 people to show the tweet to the people at at the entrance. Hopefully this works out better for you than it did for the gang in The Walking Dead...
I guess there's Game of Thrones beer (sorry, ale) now. If only I liked beer...
Seaport Village, which is northwest of the convention center, hosts quite a large number of shops and restaurants. I had no idea there was so much back there! It's definitely worth checking out.
There was this awesome guy balancing rocks using magic/physics. While I was watching, he balanced was working on the tower in the right of the picture. He put a huge rock on top of a very small rock. It took a couple minutes, but then it magically balanced. I've seen pictures of this kind of thing but never seen it done in person, so I was really really happy to see this!
I look forward to Comic Con like little kids look forward to Christmas, and finally it's only days away! Here are just a few Comic Con things I am looking forward to this year:
*Game of Thrones: Survive the Realm experience. Last year's was pretty cool, they had an Iron Throne you could take pictures on (and then they gave you the actual picture as well as a digital copy), games to play, and they gave away shirts they made there with your last name on it.
*Geeky Hooker's Critter Drop! I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time last year and picked up a green 1-Up mushroom.
*Searching for Funko Pops! There are sooo many of them, and you never know which ones you're going to find.
*Whatever's going to be in Hall H whatever day we go. Not looking forward to? Camping out for it.
*Getting tipsy for the Kevin Smith panel and the premiere of the trailer for Tusk.
*Gotham zip-line. I don't even know what to think about this, but I want to do it. Last time I went zip-lining I was in junior high, believe it or not.
*Hero Complex rooftop pool party. The free passes to this sold out in about an hour. Should be pretty awesome with music, giveaways, and free drinks!
And so much more!!! There's honestly an overwhelming amount of things going on at and around Comic Con - things that are scheduled, and things that happen spontaneously! You never know what's going to happen at the Con...
I recently won a $250 gift certificate to DSW in a contest sponsored by one of my fave bloggers, Gala Darling! I was ridiculously excited! It's been a long time since I've bought any fancy shoes. I don't have much occasion to wear fancy shoes anymore; my office is pretty casual, and it's not like I go to a lot of cocktail parties. However, I definitely want to change that and start wearing heels and such again. Just because it's not appropriate doesn't mean you can't!
I have basically no in-between shoes. It's either a flat or it's 5 inches. If I'm going to wear a heel, I want to wear a HEEL, dammit! None of this kitten heel, tiny wedge nonsense.
I spent about an hour in the store going up and down the aisles, trying on some, passing by others. So here's what I decided on!
These gorgeous purple strappy heels. I obviously love purple, but there just aren't that many purple shoes out right now. These were actually on sale, half off! I think these would be perfect to dress up a casual outfit. Jeans, t-shirt, plus these? Perfect.
Black Calvin Klein flats with silver toe cap. They look pretty and fancy and nice, but with that toe cap, it's like the ladylike version of steel-toed boots.
These Skechers Go Walk 2s are seriously so incredibly comfy. It's like walking on a cloud made of fluffy kittens. They're not super fashionable, but I want to wear them everywhere. I'm definitely going to wear these to Comic Con.
Glittery black strappy heels. These would be perfect Vegas heels because, for one thing, they're glittery, and nothing says Vegas like glitter. Also, they are extremely comfortable, which is so important when you're standing (or dancing!) on your feet for hours, and then walking a mile back to your hotel room.
Silvery feather sandals. A must have for living near the beach. Not for walking on the beach, though; maybe dining beach-adjacent. These are kind of really hipster-y, I think, but they're pretty and I like feathers.
I'm not actually into any animes or anything, but like I said about BotCon, I love a good con (or expo, even)!! We found out that the exhibit hall of Anime Expo is open to the public after 4pm until close at 6pm, so we decided to go and check it out and add another con to our roster!
It was soo crowded, it was like Comic Con levels of crowdedness, and it was pretty steamy in the hall from the hot day and all the bodies. A lot of the booths had stuff that was unfamiliar to me, of course, but there were still a lot of your usual t-shirt, cute stuff booths. Not as many action figure/toy booths as the other cons we've been to, however. Their Artists Alley had a lot of great stuff, and it looked like a lot of them were doing pretty good business. There was so much to see, but we managed to see most of it in the 2 hours it was open to the public.

And there was so much cosplay! Again, a lot of stuff I didn't recognize, but some really creative stuff. A lot of people were wearing these animal footie onesie things. I don't know what they're called, but they're basically like full-body pajamas or a snuggie or something, with a hood with Pikachu, or a bear or a bunny, or whatever else. I'm sure they're really comfy, but it was so hot! I could totally see myself wearing one of those in cooler weather, though...
Of course I still managed to find a few things to buy while I was there!! There was a booth that I've seen before at other cons selling Disney pins, so I picked up a few more. I got a cute little stuffed seal in a stuffed shark, a really soft panda bag (a steal at only $20!!), and a bunny ear hat from Pawstar! It seems I'm collecting animal hats now, since I already have a cat ear hat that I got from Calgary Expo.
I was really happy to get to experience a brand new (to me) con, and it really got me into the mood for Comic Con!

So kawaii. |
I received a Surf's Up box of goodies from Influenster the other day! Here's the awesomeness included:
Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration After Sun - now that I live near the beach, I think I'll definitely find a use for this!
Sinful Colors Nail Polish in Aqua - I love Sinful Colors! They have beautiful shades and are only a couple bucks a pop at your local drugstore!
First Aid Shot Therapy (pain relief) - Um, I think I'm gonna save this for my next hangover! Or my next really intense workout.
CoverGirl Bombshell Curvaceous LashBlast Mascara - So so love Covergirl's LashBlash mascaras. I haven't tried this one before, so I'm looking forward to it!
Jamba Juice Smoothie Kit coupon - I used to drink Jamba Juice all the time, and I love making smoothies at home. Excited to try these!
