Emerald City Comic Con 2015!

I'm back from Seattle and full of tales of this year's Emerald City Comic Con!

We arrived on Thursday. After picking up my boyfriend's press pass at the convention center (and getting a peak at the con being set up!) we headed to a happy hour at RN74 for some moscow mules and apps.

That evening, we met up with a friend who lives in Seattle, and went to a couple more happy

hour places, including one that had a room full of pinball games. I played a Walking Dead one, complete with zombie that wobbled when hit with the pinball!

Friday was our first day at the convention. We walked around the exhibit floor for a while. I saw this huge The Walking Dead banner, continuing the theme since I also finished reading the 2nd Compendium of TWD that weekend.

Fight the Dead, Fear the Living!
It's-a me, Mario!
I need dis She-Hulk action figure, but not for 75 bucks...
Then we checked out their extensive Lego exhibit. I think it's my new goal in life to build something big out of Legos.

Captain Lego!

Gondor!
Our first panel of the day was called How To Make Beer Money With Your Comic or Zine. Their presentation was pretty cute. I don't have a comic or zine though, so...

Our next panel was Hayley Atwell, aka Agent Carter! There were a ton of girls cosplaying as various versions of her that weekend. Most popular was the blue dress/red hat version. She was adorable and hinted that there would be a season 2, so fingers crossed!

Then, we went to a panel with John Wesley Shipp, aka the original Flash, aka current Flash's dad, aka Dawson's dad! He was so hilarious and charming! We actually went and got his autograph the next day, too, and he was so friendly and cool!

My last panel of the day was with Charisma Carpenter and Julie Benz, aka Cordelia and Darla from Buffy and Angel. I was a little late because it was impossible to find the 'Main Hall' where it was being held, because literally nothing ever names it as such on the map or the guide. So... several trips around both sides of the convention center later, I finally got there. They sure don't make it easy to find your way around. Anyway, it was pretty cool. My favorite part was where they talked about their favorite episodes, and each picked the episode named after their own character.

That night, we went over to the Pacific Science Center by the Space Needle for a laser light show set to the soundtrack of Guardians of the Galaxy!

They said they did the show live, which I can't even comprehend how that's possible, but okay. For some songs, there were shapes and patterns and screensaver-looking things. For a couple other, there was a spaceman rescuing a spacewoman from a spacealien, another had an off-brand looking Powerpuff girl flying space. So it was pretty awesome, and something I'd never been to before!

Saturday! We checked out a couple panels, and tried unsuccessfully to check out a couple more. We walked all around the exhibit hall again, as well as Artist's Alley and Writer's Block.

That evening, we checked out a fun bar called Unicorn/Narwhal. The upstairs part with tables, bar, and food was called Unicorn. The downstairs with pinball and arcade games and another bar was called Narwhal. A great idea, I just wish there were more unicorns and narwhal decorations around...

Swag-wise, I didn't buy too much because my small suitcase was already pretty jammed. I did get a headband with a stuffed bunny attached, an awesome Buffy action figure I'd never seen before, a few Frozen mini mystery Funkos, some Walking Dead chibis (got Glenn on the first try!), an Elsa mini Funko, and two magnets of Captain America and Spider-Man as pandas. Also, not pictured, a handful of comics!

Some of my favorite cosplay was a Steampunk Ariel and Belle; a TARS from Interstellar; elderly Han & Leia; a couple little kids in Aliens cosplay (aren't they too young to see that movie?!); and of course there were plenty of Deadpools and Spider-Mans, female Thors and Lokis, tons of Firefly, and a couple sets of Calvins and Hobbes! Good work, cosplaying con-goers!

One of the highlights of the Con for me was the day I wore my Ewok hoodie, and a girl came up to me and asked to take a picture with me! She said she was part of an Ewok hunting group! I crouched down and looked scared while she pretended to kill me. It was awesome!!

Bye Seattle!
